Panel of experts
1. Dr. Prabodhachandran Nair Former Chairman, Kerala Kala Mandalam, Scholar of Eminence, authority on Kathakali and other art forms of Kerala.
2. Shri. P. Narayana Kurup Chairman of Sopanam Institute of performing arts, Thiruvananthapuram, well known Malayalam poet, a connoisseur and critic of the art of Kathakali.
3. Shri. P. Venugopal Editor, Malayalam Lexicon, University of Kerala, a Scholar of Kathakali and other performing arts of Kerala.

  • Martial arts (Kalari)

  • 1. Shri. M.Ramachandran Nair Guru (Teacher) of Kalari (Martial arts). An expert practitioner of a special branch of medicine, Sidha.
    2. Shri. G. Satyanarayanan Internationally acclaimed Kalari Practitioner, travelled and performed in many countries as leader of martial art troupe, CVN Kalari Sangh, Trivandrum.
    3. Shri. P. Gopinath Experienced in martial arts and theatre acting, travelled in many countries as member of CVN martial art group and Sopanam theatre group.

  • Music

  • 1. Shri. B. Sasikumar Reputed Violinist in classical music, Fellow of the State Sangeet Natak Akademi, Kerala.
    2. Shri. Kavalam Sreekumar Asst. Station Director, All India Radio Trivandrum, a vocalist in classical karnatic music, presented musical concerts in India and abroad.
    3. Dr. Balashankor Mannoth Art editor of Children's Encyclopedia of Kerala and a creative music director.
    4. Shri. Kavalam Sajeevan A classical music vocalist who has specialized in the indigenous Kerala style of music.
    5. Shri. Pazhaveedu  AnilKumar Vocalist of folk and classical music, specialized in theatre music.

  • Rehearsals

  • 1. Shri. V. Gireesh 20 yrs of experience as a talented actor in Sanskrit and folk theatre and performed in India and abroad.
    2. Shri. K. Sivakumar 15 yrs standing as a brilliant actor in Sopanam group. He is adept in percussion instruments.
    3. Smt. Mohini Vinayan 20 yrs experience as a talented actress and specialized in Mohiniattam.

  • Percussions /Instrumentation (Vaadya)

  • 1. Shri. R. Promod A versatile percussionist specialized in theatre music.
    2. Shri. K. Ramdas A talented percussionist who is well versed in the instruments mridangam, maddalam, edakka and thimila.

  • Make-up & Costumes (Aaharya), Stage decoration (Nepadhya)

  • 1. Shri. Pankajakshan Nair A talented artist with long experience in the designing and execution of costumes in theatre.
Mohiniattam (Faculty)

1. Smt. Pallavi Krishnan Renowned Mohiniattam performer.
2. Smt. Mohini Vinayan Theatre actress and Mohiniattam dancer, over 20 yrs standing. Choreographed many Mohiniattam items, travelled widely, an experienced dance teacher.
3. Smt. Malini Vijayakumar A Mohiniattam performer and teacher, experienced in theatre acting also, travelled many countries with Sopanam theatre group.


Experts in different fields of performing arts of Kerala like Kathakali, Koodiyattam, Theyyam, Velakali, Patayani etc will be made available for interaction with the participants.

As a part of the course, the students will also be given an exposure to art forms like Kathakali, Koodiyattam, Theyyam, Mohiniyattam etc. They will also be given opportunity to watch the rehearsals of contemporary classical and folk plays of Sopanam.


The course fee for non-Indians will be US $1000.

Accommodation & food have to be arranged by the candidates themselves. However Institution will help to get reasonably good accommodation depending on the choice. In the case of non-Indian applicants, the responsibility of obtaining the required Visa lies with the applicant.
